Google Drive File Stream missing files and folders

There seems to be a problem with Google Drive File Stream (GDFS) syncing. Some files and folders are simply not showing up on my G-Drive. There is already a large thread on the Google support forums however some solutions might only work for some devices.

I will here post the solutions that I have tried and that worked for me:

Deleting the Cache on Windows:

  1. Click on the tray icon
  2. Click on the gear icon
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Now you see the path for your Cache files, remember or copy the path
  5. Completely close GDFS
  6. Navigate to the path
  7. Delete the contents completely (you may have to show hidden files on Windows)
  8. Start GDFS

worked temporarily

Refresh folder on Windows

  1. Navigate to the parent folder of the missing files/folders
  2. Shift + Right click on the parent folder icon/name
  3. Click Refresh folder

worked, I guess

Hiding the Drive online

  1. Go to https://drive.google.com/drive/shared-drives
  2. Right click on the affected drive
  3. Click Hide shared drive
  4. Wait approx. 5 minutes
  5. Deselect everything
  6. Under the gear icon, click hidden shared drives
  7. Right click on the affected drive
  8. Click Show shared drive
  9. Wait for sync

worked temporarily

Move the missing folders

  1. Go online to one of your missing folders
  2. Move the contents to a different (newly created) parent folder
  3. Wait for sync

worked temporarily

Download and overwrite missing folders

  1. Go online to one of your missing folders
  2. Download the missing files and extract them over the path where they should be

worked permanently, yet time consuming and annoying
